Description
Coldstream Hills Pinot Noir 2010 (Yarra Valley)
Coldstream Hills was established in 1985 by James and Suzanne Halliday and has since grown to become one of Australia's leading and most awarded small wineries.
Situated in the picturesque Yarra Valley east of Melbourne, the steep close planted vineyards of Coldstream Hills have become a signature of the region. So too have its wines, which reflect regional character, consistency and style.
Sourced from low yielding vineyards in the Lower and Upper Yarra Valley, all fruit is selectively handpicked prior to its delivery into the winery. It is made using a variety of handling and fermentation techniques, including the use of whole bunches. Each batch is then matured in new and used oak for nine months, prior to blending and bottling.
Winemaker notes......
On the nose vibrant cherry fruit characters are underpinned by savoury, gamey notes and spice. Attractive French oak is evident but does not dominate.
The palate is medium bodied in style, the wine has great texture, elegance and length. Fine chalky tannins provide structure to the palate and are complemented with hints of whole bunch stalk and fine grained French oak. Ripe fruit characters of cherry and raspberry are evident with gamey and savoury overtones.
Quarram Rocks Pinot Noir 2010 (Western Australia)
Massoni Pinot Noir 2009 (Mornington Peninsula)
Subtle aromas featuring a complex mix of red, blue and black berries with notes of violets, anise, clove and cinnamon. Oak plays only a background role.
The palate is generous, rich, intense and velvety. Ripe berry flavours brimming with fruit sweetness buffer the tannins on the savoury and long finish.
A worthy follow-up to the 2008, showing the same ripe generosity and palate length. Drinking well upon release and has the capacity to cellar for up to ten years.
Phaedrus Pinot Noir 2010 (Mornington Peninsula)
One of our favourite and biggest selling Pinot's because it really over delivers for the price!
Phaedrus Estate is a small, innovative winery situated on a ten acre vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula. It was established in 1997 by qualified winemakers Ewan Campbell and Maitena Zantvoort who had a vision to make a benchmark Australian Pinot Noir. Half the vineyard is planted to five different clones of Pinot Noir and the rest is planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Shiraz.
El Nino Pinot Noir 2010 (Yarra Valley)
Yarra Valley Pinot Noir that makes the most of the prettier elements that Pinot Noir can offer. A beautifully perfumed floral nose of ripe strawberries and hints of cinnamon spice. A light to mid weighted palate carries the strawberry notes through with hints of blood plums & little oak influence. Softly tannined and juicy soft acid to keep it fresh keep this as a real crowd pleaser and an excellent introduction to the delights and subtlies Pinot can offer. Drink up!
Squealing Pig Pinot Noir Central Otago 2010
Winemaker notes....
Central Otago enjoyed an almost perfect vintage season in 2010, which contributed to excellent quality fruit parcels. The cooler climate concentrating flavours of the fruit and enriching colour development. The fruit for this wine was selected from premium vineyards throughout the Central Otago region, all trained to vertical shoot positioning.
The nose has a complex nose of red cherry, blackberry and cocoa aromas.
The palate is rich and generous with blackberry, cherry and cocoa characteristics & velvet like tannins that offer wonderful length to the finish.
