Description
Deep ruby red in colour with a bright hue. The bouquet is rich and complex with hints of violets, plums, a touch of spice and savoury fruitcake elements. The French oak is restrained and well integrated. Medium bodied with a strong mid palate of mulberry and savoury forest underbrush flavours. The texture is soft with integrated smoky vanilla French oak, finishing with a refined smooth tannin structure.
Campbell Mattinson, Winefront gives it 89 Points and says....
Another 15 percent (alcohol) red from Penley Estate, though the excellent 2008 Coonawarra vintage kicks in nicely here.
Soft and fruity but with a reasonable kick of tannin on the finish. Flavours of plum, tar, toast and mulberries splashed with spice. An enjoyable drink, for sure. Heat on the finish, but it's pretty much won you over by then.
